Abstract

This article comes from a research project on the future of schools in the Alps under the pressure of current socio-economic transformations. Its originality has to do with the fact that project’s leaders (educationalists) utilized geography with a double intent: provide a frame of reference – the territory – and understand how socio-economic transformations affect the Alps today. Do they differ among research regions, or within each region? How do they weight over school organization? Finally, this article is to be set in relation with other publications of this thematic issue. Indeed, exploring sociological, institutional political or pedagogical issues, they make a coherent whole with the rather spatial approach provided here.
