Parental perspectives on the career guidance experiences of young people with inclusive support measures – a multiple case study

Abstract

This article explores the career orientation trajectories of eight young people identified as having special educational needs who were educated in inclusive lower secondary schools across four French-speaking Swiss cantons. The parents of these young people provided their perspectives on the orientation process and on their collaboration with the professionals involved. A multiple case study revealed highly diverse, often non-linear and complex trajectories, as well as a wide range of professionals assuming various roles throughout these processes. The findings underscore the need for greater responsiveness and flexibility in the support provided to these young people and their families as they navigate career orientation and transition pathways.
