Teachers' emotions when differentiating homework: A qualitative interview study
Abstract
The optimal fit between the requirements of tasks and the abilities of students (fit) is considered a key quality criterion for homework. Differentiation can help to achieve a high level of fit for heterogeneous learning groups. However, it is rarely implemented in everyday school life. Against the backdrop of theoretical assumptions that teachers' emotions influence professional behaviour, this qualitative study examines teachers' emotions in connection with the differentiation of homework. Based on semi-structured interviews with secondary school teachers, it becomes apparent that teachers' emotions are significant for homework differentiation and that targeted learning opportunities could have a supportive effect.
